This turrón has a pleasant crunch and balanced sweetness that make it a favorite across Spain. The confectioners at Vicens form each bar by hand, as they have since 1775. Traditionally a Christmas candy, it is now enjoyed year-round as a delicious treat served with coffee or tea. Whole fresh almonds are roasted on site in Agramunt, a town made famous for finest quality turrón. Next, honey, cane sugar and egg whites are blended and mixed with the almonds. While still warm, the mixture is formed by hand into bars that become brittle and crunchy as they cool. Agramunt crunchy turrón is enjoyed year round, as a treat with coffee or a tasty dessert. Traditionally served just before Christmas, Spaniards now enjoy it year round! Vicens was founded in 1775 in the town of Agramunt, near Lleida. The turrón candy is protected by PGI status to preserve its quality and protect the tradition from inferior imitations. Turrón with this status must follow traditional methods and must be made within the geographical limits of Agramunt. In 2016, the master turrón maker at Vicens, Angel Velasco, was awarded the title of “Best Pastry Chef in the World” at the prestigious Madrid Fusion food show.
